How to Sell Clothes Online in Nigeria: A Launch Checklist

To sell clothes online in Nigeria, choose a collection you can supply, show accurate photos and measurements, publish clear prices, and organise payment and delivery. A useful first goal is a small shop customers can understand and order from confidently.

This checklist is for ready-to-wear sellers, thrift vendors and makers selling their own clothing. It focuses on preparing your catalogue and fulfilment process. For the technical setup steps, see our guide to creating an online store without coding.

1. Choose a clear first collection

Decide who you are serving and which products you can supply consistently. “Office shirts in these measurements” or “one-off thrift denim” gives you a more concrete starting point than trying to sell every type of clothing.

Start with a manageable number of listings. For each item, record the supplier or production source, quantity available, cost, measurements and preparation time. If you sell made-to-order garments, decide how you will collect and confirm measurements before accepting a commitment.

2. Photograph the actual item

Use your own photographs or images you have permission to use. Show the front, back, fabric detail and any important fastening. Keep lighting and the background consistent so shoppers can compare products.

  • For thrift pieces, photograph wear, repairs and marks.
  • For a set, show every piece included in the price.
  • For fitted garments, explain how the measurements were taken.
  • For made-to-order items, label sample photos clearly and explain possible differences.

A photo should help the buyer assess the item. Avoid editing that changes its colour, texture or condition. If accessories are used for styling, state whether they are included.

3. Make sizing understandable

Size names alone can be ambiguous. Provide measurements and units, explain whether they refer to the garment or body, and identify any relevant fit considerations. Use a measurement guide that matches your actual products.

Product Useful details to include
Shirt or blouse Chest or bust, shoulder, sleeve and body length
Trousers Waist, hip, rise and inseam
Dress Bust, waist, hip and full length
Made-to-order outfit Required measurements, confirmation process and preparation time

Only include measurements relevant to the item. Explain whether a waistband stretches or a garment has a relaxed cut if you have verified that detail. For listing ideas, use our product-description examples once you have the facts ready.

4. Work out the costs before setting a price

List the costs attached to each sale: sourcing or production, packaging, payment processing, and any delivery subsidy you offer. Allocate an appropriate share of other business costs rather than treating the selling price minus fabric cost as the whole profit.

Illustrative worksheet: A garment costs ₦10,000 to source, packaging costs ₦500, and you allocate ₦1,000 for other operating costs. Your cost base is ₦11,500 before payment fees, delivery you absorb and any other applicable costs. At a selling price of ₦15,000, the ₦3,500 difference is not automatically your final profit.

These are example figures, not market prices or a pricing recommendation. Check your actual costs and current payment fees. Be clear about whether delivery is included and what changes the final total.

5. Build the shop and keep stock accurate

Waabot’s setup flow lets you name a shop and add a product to a live preview before continuing to account creation or login. After signing in, the product form includes name, description, category, Naira price, stock and an image gallery.

Describe available sizes and colours accurately. A separate size/colour selector was not present in the product form we checked, so do not promise a variation-selection workflow you have not tested. For one-off pieces, distinguish listings clearly and keep their stock current.

6. Explain payment, delivery and exchanges

Complete your payment setup before promoting checkout. Waabot’s product site describes Paystack support for Naira payments; account requirements and processing fees are separate from creating a shop.

Tell buyers where you deliver, how charges are determined, when an item is ready to dispatch and how to contact you if something is wrong. Write your exchange and return information to reflect your actual process and applicable obligations. Avoid promising a courier time that you cannot control.

Before sharing the shop widely, test the path from each promoted link to the cart and checkout on a phone. Check quantities, prices and sold-out behaviour. Fix any broken cart transition before running a promotion.

7. Launch with a small, clear campaign

Our Instagram selling guide shows how to connect your profile and shop. Choose a few products to introduce first. Show one useful detail per post and direct interested customers to the shop. Keep enough time available to answer sizing questions and fulfil the resulting orders.

Use WhatsApp or Instagram conversations to help buyers choose, while your shop provides consistent product information. Our WhatsApp selling guide explains how a shop link fits into that conversation.

Common questions

Can I sell thrift clothes through an online shop?

Yes, but each listing should describe its actual condition and measurements. Keep quantities accurate for one-off pieces and check any platform rules that apply.

Do I need many products before launching?

No fixed number guarantees a successful launch. A small, well-described collection you can fulfil is a sensible starting point.

Does Waabot deliver the clothes for me?

You manage your delivery arrangements. Waabot provides the shop and order-management tools described in this guide.
